Koenig was born and raised in Germany before coming to the UK in 1989 to pursue a career in art. She graduated with a First Class Hons in Fine Art Printmaking from Brighton University, followed by a post-graduate Diploma in Fine Art Printmaking in 1996 from the Slade School of Fine Art. Since then, she has been a full-time painter and printmaker. Koenig now lives and works near Dartmoor, having previously travelled in India, Australia and Asia. The colours of these countries greatly influenced her work and remain a visual memory often appearing in her paintings. Koenig says that each piece evolves transporting her back to the place she has been inspired by bringing back the sensory detail she absorbed.
"Paintings are driven by observation of my environment and my emotional and physical response ..."
"...the artist's ability is to see what others do not, to achieve harmony, sensuality and beauty from nature's raw elements, and to offer a new way of seeing."
Koenig's work is internationally sought after and can be found in many public and private collections. She has won numerous awards and commissions.
