Andrew Taylor gained his BFA from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne in 1987. Taylor's work has received international recognition and wide critical acclaim, featuring in many solo and group exhibitions, he has been lauded as a notable force in contemporary Australian art. Taylor's work often resembles floral motifs calling to mind Chinese or Japanese scrolls with simplified leaves and flowers sometimes giving the impression of being shrouded in mist, however also layering to imply depth and perspective giving the viewer the feeling of gazing through the image.
Taylor's compositions balance a figurative yet abstract line often with an eastern sensibility. He is quoted as saying '...I like to paint the things we look through to see something else, or the things we don't really see.' Andrew Taylor continues to exhibit especially in Australia, Hong Kong and the US.
Amongst other recognitions, he is a Finalist in the Geelong Contemporary Art Prize 2021. The 2021 Geelong contemporary art prize is a signature event that assists with the development of the Gallery's collection while fostering Australian artists and contemporary painting practice in general.
