Kurt Jackson, born 1961, is a dedicated environmentalist. His holistic approach combines art and politics paving the way to an unconstrained format and scale. Jackson's work spans his trademark plein-air sessions to studio time encompassing a wide range of materials and techniques - mixed media, large scale works, print-making, written word and sculpture. Prior to settling down in Cornwall with his wife in 1984, he travelled extensively painting as he went, having graduated from Oxford University where he studied Zoology, although much time was spent painting and attending courses at Ruskin College of Art.
Jackson's politics, art and focus on the complexity, diversity and fragility of the natural world has led to being artist-in-residence on the Greenpeace ship 'Esperanza', the Eden Project, and almost 20 years at the Glastonbury Festival. Jackson has an Honorary DLitt from Exeter University and is an Honorary Fellow of St Peter's College, Oxford University - he is also an ambassador for Survival International and often works with Greenpeace, Water Aid, Oxfam and Cornwall Wildlife Trust, additionally he is a patron of human rights charity Prisoners of Conscience.
Both Jackson and his wife, Caroline, have founded the Jackson Foundation Gallery, based at St Just-in-Penwith, an award-winning art space celebrating and championing arts and the natural world.
